چکیده

There are several errors in mathematical expressions in theIntroduction under the subheading GWAS Plus: GCTA. In the final sentence of the second paragraph, the expression for the distribution of u is incorrect. The subscript n should be an m and the subscript epsilon should be a u. The correct distribution is: u∼Nmð0; IσuÞ. In the second sentence of the sixth paragraph, the expression for the distribution of g is incorrect. The subscript epsilon should be a g. The correct distribution is: Nnð0;AσgÞ.

Results of a “GWAS Plus:” General Cognitive Ability Is Substantially Heritable and Massively Polygenic

We carried out a genome-wide association study (GWAS) for general cognitive ability (GCA) plus three other analyses of GWAS data that aggregate the effects of multiple single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in various ways. Our multigenerational sample comprised 7,100 Caucasian participants, drawn from two longitudinal family studies, who had been assessed with an age-appropriate IQ test and ha...

Polygenic risk for schizophrenia is associated with cognitive change between childhood and old age.

BACKGROUND Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have shown a polygenic component to the risk of schizophrenia. The disorder is associated with impairments in general cognitive ability that also have a substantial genetic contribution. No study has determined whether cognitive impairments can be attributed to schizophrenia's polygenic architecture using data from GWAS. METHODS Members of the...

Evidence for Recent Polygenic Selection on Educational Attainment Inferred from GWAS Hits

The genetic variants identified by three large genome-wide association studies (GWAS) of educational attainment were used to test a polygenic selection model. Average frequencies of alleles with positive effect (polygenic scores or PS) were compared across populations (N=26) using data from 1000 Genomes. The PS of 161 GWAS significant SNPs in a recent meta-analysis was highly correlated to popu...

Common genetic variation and schizophrenia polygenic risk influence neurocognitive performance in young adulthood

Neurocognitive abilities constitute complex traits with considerable heritability. Impaired neurocognition is typically observed in schizophrenia (SZ), whereas convergent evidence has shown shared genetic determinants between neurocognition and SZ. Here, we report a genome-wide association study (GWAS) on neuropsychological and oculomotor traits, linked to SZ, in a general population sample of ...

Can we detect polygenic selection on cognitive ability using GWAS hits? Employing random SNPs as a null model

Background: The genetic variants identified by three large genome-wide association studies (GWAS) of educational attainment were used to test a polygenic selection model. ethods: Average frequencies of alleles with positive effect (polygenic scores or PS) were compared across populations (N=26) using data from 1000 Genomes. A null model was created using frequencies of random SNPs. Results: Pol...
